New Publication: “The Summit of Safe Horror: Defending Most Horror Films” by Cara Rei Cummings-Coughlin

We are pleased to announce the publication of the fourth paper from the special issue “Aesthetic Education and Screen Stories”. This time we have the paper titled “The Summit of Safe Horror: Defending Most Horror Films” by Cara Rei Cummings-Coughlin.
The paper examines whether horror films harm our moral character. It argues that most horror films, like Candyman and Get Out, fall into the “Summit of Safe Horror”, where features like comic relief and foolish character choices balance fear and excitement, avoiding moral harm. Only “torture porn” films risk negative effects.
